The Border Ports Authority in Iraq announced today, Wednesday, the arrest of a drug trafficker and carrier at the Shalamcheh border post. The spokesperson for the authority, Alaa al-Din al-Qaisi, stated in a statement that "the authorities, in a specialized operation in conjunction with the Customs Police at the border post, managed to apprehend the suspects (the trafficker and the carrier) involved in drug trafficking." He noted that "a foreign traveler was found in possession of a group of narcotic substances, including a new type that was being introduced for the first time, according to the carrier's confession. This led to the entrapment of the other suspect (the trafficker), who was located outside the country, by securing communication between the carrier and the trafficker." Al-Qaisi added that "the suspects were referred to the competent judicial authorities along with the seized items to receive their just punishment according to the law."
