Lawyer Brinulf Risnes of former Russian private military company Wagner leader Andrey Medvedev indicated today, Saturday, that "Norwegian police arrested his client on suspicion of attempting to illegally cross the border returning to Russia after seeking asylum in Norway earlier this year." The Norwegian lawyer stated about Medvedev that "his client's arrest was a result of a misunderstanding." He added: "He was there to see if he could find the place where he crossed (into Norway in January). He was stopped while in a taxi. He was never near the border... He never intended to cross the border into Russia."
Andrey Medvedev, who fled Russia in January, crossed its border with Norway in the Arctic and described how he ran away from Russian guards who were shooting at him. He spoke about his time fighting in Ukraine as part of Wagner operations. The police stated in a statement yesterday, Friday, that they detained a man in his twenties for attempting to illegally cross into the Russian border, but did not release his name. Crossing into Russia is only permitted through designated points.
