Berlin Film Festival Honors Martin Scorsese with Lifetime Achievement Award

The organizers of the Berlin Film Festival announced today, Thursday, that they will honor American director Martin Scorsese for his significant contributions to the film industry by awarding him the Lifetime Achievement Award during the 74th edition of the festival, which will take place in February. Scorsese, who is 81 years old, will receive the honorary Golden Bear on February 20. The organizers described the director's latest film, "Killers of the Flower Moon," as one of his greatest achievements. With this recognition, Scorsese joins other award winners such as Steven Spielberg, Helen Mirren, Ian McKellen, and Dustin Hoffman. Festival directors Mariette Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian stated, "For anyone who considers cinema as an art of storytelling that harmoniously combines the personal and the universal, Martin Scorsese is a peerless model." Scorsese, who became renowned as one of the most important filmmakers of the New Hollywood era with his 1976 film "Taxi Driver," won his first Oscar in 2007 for "The Departed" after being nominated seven times for the top award in the film industry.
