Chris Hughton Sacked as Ghana Coach After Early AFCON Exit

The Ghana Football Association announced in a statement the dismissal of Chris Hughton from his role as head coach of the national team following an early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. Ghana finished third in Group B after drawing 2-2 with Mozambique last Monday. Their hopes of qualifying for the round of sixteen as one of the best four third-placed teams were dashed after the results of the other teams in Groups C and D. The Ghanaian federation stated, "The Ghana Football Association announces the removal of Chris Hughton from his duties as head coach of the senior national team, effective immediately." The executive council also decided to dissolve the coaching staff of the national team. The statement added, "The Ghana Football Association will present a roadmap regarding the future of the national team in the coming days."
