Electric Cars Pulse at the Heart of Beirut

In an effort to reduce pollution and protect the environment, the world is moving towards the use of electric cars. Lebanon, which has over two thousand of these cars, played its part by hosting the second edition of the Middle East Electric Motor Show in Beirut. Charging a car fully takes eight hours, but in urgent cases, there is a Fast Charging option that enables charging the car's battery in just half an hour. Additionally, the cost is significantly lower than the price of gasoline. Michel Bahr, the brand manager at Ghorghour, pointed out that "all electric vehicles require less maintenance than internal combustion engines" and that "the cost of electric charging is low compared to fuel prices."

Miss Lebanon Yasmina Zaitoun emphasized, in an interview with "Wardena," the importance of launching this type of vehicle in Lebanon, stating that it helps "preserve the environment and reduce emissions from cars, which significantly contribute to air pollution in Lebanon." She added that this would "mitigate health issues associated with pollution," ultimately lowering healthcare costs for both citizens and the Ministry of Health.

The exhibition features around sixty electric cars and bikes available for testing on four different tracks, and visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about new technologies through a discussion platform. Tourism Minister Walid Nassar expressed to "Wardena" that "Lebanon is eager to keep up with mechanical developments in the world," stressing the environmental and health benefits that electric cars provide. He stated, "There is no doubt that electric cars are the vehicles of the future, as the Lebanese government has abolished customs duties on this type of vehicle to encourage imports and protect the environment." The exhibition will continue until May 14th.
