The announcement by Israeli prison authorities regarding the death of Palestinian "Islamic Jihad" leader Khader Adnan on Tuesday has triggered a series of reactions.
Lebanese and Arab organizations and parties condemned what happened to the Palestinian prisoner Adnan Khader and called for accountability of those responsible for the incident. Hezbollah stated in a statement, "The martyrdom of Sheikh Adnan today reveals once again the magnitude of the tragedy that Palestinian and Arab prisoners endure in the prisons of the Israeli enemy, and the severe forms of abuse and terrorism they are subjected to." They urged international and humanitarian institutions to "work diligently to expose the crimes of the occupation in the Zionist prisons" and expressed condolences to the martyr's family, supporting all steps taken by resistance movements in Palestine in response to the crimes of the occupation and to free all prisoners and detainees from its jails.
For its part, the Israeli army announced today that warning sirens against rocket fire sounded in Israeli areas near Gaza, marking the second time since the death of Khader Adnan.
