Killing of Iranian Revolutionary Guard General in Israeli Strikes on Syria

Iranian media reported today, Sunday, that General Hussein Sohanai of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard was killed in Israeli strikes targeting Syria late Saturday into Sunday. Syrian air defenses confronted Israeli air raids, targeting the area around the village of Al-Najmah in the Homs countryside, successfully intercepting several missiles, according to the SANA agency.

A Syrian military source stated, "Around 12:20 a.m. today, the Israeli enemy carried out an air aggression from the direction of northeastern Beirut, targeting some points in the vicinity of the city of Homs," confirming that the damage was limited to material losses.

Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adraee announced on Sunday that Israeli warplanes targeted a Syrian air defense battery that had launched a missile toward Israel earlier. He noted that the planes also attacked other targets in the area, although there were no reports of injuries from the Syrian missile.

A previous Israeli military spokesman indicated that the missile launched from Syrian territory exploded in mid-air. Social media platforms shared videos of a Syrian missile falling in the Negev area near the town of Rahat in the south, without any sirens being triggered.

Israeli media showcased parts of the missile and the location where it landed, noting that the Syrian missiles traveled a distance of 400 kilometers, reaching the Negev without being intercepted by Iron Dome or David's Sling systems, and that the Israeli army is conducting an investigation into why the air defenses were not activated.

It is estimated that the missile was of the S-200 variety, launched towards the attacking aircraft.
