American Drone Strike Targets Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces, Causing Casualties

An American drone strike today, Wednesday, hit locations belonging to the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in Babil province, southwest of Baghdad, resulting in casualties. According to a security source, American drones carried out attacks early today on PMF facilities (the brigades) within the Al-Sayidat area in Jurf al-Sakher (Victory). The source stated that the strike resulted in the deaths of four PMF fighters and injured two others.

For its part, the U.S. military issued a statement early Wednesday, stating, "U.S. Central Command forces executed separate and precise strikes on facilities in Iraq." The statement added that "the strikes were a direct response to attacks on U.S. and coalition forces by Iran and Tehran-backed groups."

On Tuesday, American forces officially claimed responsibility for the attack targeting "Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq and Kata'ib Hezbollah" west of Baghdad. An American military official told Reuters that "U.S. forces in Iraq responded to an attack targeting Al-Asad Airbase west of Baghdad," without providing further details.

On the same day, an American drone targeted a pickup truck carrying military supplies associated with Kata'ib Hezbollah on the Abu Ghraib highway, west of Baghdad. A second drone opened fire with heavy weaponry in the Al-Ramadi district along the international highway towards the Tharthar desert.

Iraqi armed factions have escalated their attacks on military bases of the international coalition led by the United States in Iraq and Syria following the events of October 7th in Palestine (Al-Aqsa Flood).
