The Truth about the Pictures Circulating of the Prophet Muhammad's Grave

In the context of posts aimed at gaining widespread interaction on social media, dozens of pages and accounts on Facebook have shared a photo claiming to show the grave of the Prophet Muhammad in Medina. The circulated image appears to depict a grave covered with green cloth. Accompanying comments confirmed that it showcases the Prophet Muhammad's grave in Medina, urging followers to interact with the post. The post has indeed garnered hundreds of shares and thousands of interactions on the pages that published it.

However, this claim, like many similar ones made in the past, is entirely false. There are no photographs taken from inside the chamber where the Prophet Muhammad was buried over fourteen centuries ago in Medina, which was known before Islam as Yathrib. According to early Islamic sources, the Prophet was buried in his house close to the mosque he built in Medina after his migration from Mecca. As the mosque expanded over time, the house and grave became part of the sacred area known as the Prophet's Mosque or the Prophet's Sanctuary.

The controversial image in question actually depicts a shrine in the Sultanate of Oman, which the local residents believe is dedicated to the Prophet Job, revered in the three Abrahamic religions. It was shared years ago on several sites, and similar images were published by the Alamy agency in 2007. Additionally, thorough research revealed videos uploaded by users on YouTube filmed inside this shrine located in the Dhofar governorate in southern Oman.
