Terrorism Charges Filed Against Radical Preacher in London

British police announced today, Monday, that they have filed three terrorism charges against the British Muslim radical preacher, Anjem Choudary, following his arrest in London last week.

The police stated that Choudary (56 years old) is accused of belonging to a banned organization, managing a terrorist organization, and making speeches at meetings to encourage support for a banned organization. Choudary is set to appear before a court in London today, Monday.

The police also charged a 28-year-old Canadian named Khalid Hussain with belonging to a banned organization after his arrest on the same day Choudary was detained upon his arrival at Heathrow Airport.

At one time, Choudary was one of the prominent preachers in Britain. He began serving a prison sentence in Britain in 2016 after being convicted of encouraging support for ISIS, and was released in 2018 after serving half of his five-and-a-half-year sentence.

Choudary drew attention for his praise of those who executed the September 11 attacks on the United States and for stating that he wanted to turn Buckingham Palace into a mosque. He was the former leader of the group "Al-Muhajiroun," which is now banned. His followers have been linked to several plots around the world.
