French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné stated during a press conference in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry that "Gaza must be a part of the upcoming Palestinian state," adding, "We are working with Egypt to achieve a Palestinian state." He considered that "both Palestinians and Israelis have the right to live side by side." Séjourné noted that his tour in the region aims to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to seek a political solution.
He thanked Egypt for its cooperation with France in facilitating humanitarian measures regarding the situation in Gaza, expressing "understanding of Egypt's concern regarding the displacement of Palestinians and condemning any actions that lead to that."
For his part, the Egyptian Foreign Minister stated that "the two-state solution is the only solution to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict." Shoukry added, "A timeline must be set for establishing an independent Palestinian state and dealing with the Palestinian issue through a comprehensive political framework." He also reiterated Egypt's rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received Séjourné, and their meeting addressed the situation in Gaza, reviewing Egypt's intensive efforts with various partners to achieve a ceasefire in the region and to implement humanitarian aid to end the tragedy faced by the people of Gaza.
