Protesters Interrupt Macron During His Speech

Protesters interrupted French President Emmanuel Macron's speech in The Hague during his visit to the Netherlands today, Tuesday, prompting him to say, "Those who do not respect the electoral process and elected leaders put democracy at risk." He added: "You vote and elect people. In return, you must respect the institutions that the people voted for. The day you think: I disagree with the law, so I can do what I want, you endanger democracy."

Macron then continued with his speech. Journalists in the hall reported that the protesters were removed. In this context, a man shouted: "Where is French democracy? When did we lose it?" while others raised voices about climate change and pension reform.

One protester held a sign that read "President of Violence and Hypocrisy." Macron tried for several minutes to make his voice heard amid the shouts of the protesters.

Macron has faced protests for weeks over a law that would extend the retirement age for the French. French unions plan to organize new protests on Thursday.
