The "Tsunami of Graduates and Non-Graduates" coordination organized a protest in front of the governorate building in Basra demanding appointments in operating oil companies and a reduction of foreign labor. One of the participants stated that the goal of their gathering in front of the governorate was to convey their message to the Prime Minister's Office. The protest was against the hiring of foreign labor at the expense of local workers.
He added that the Chairman of the Provincial Council had previously met with them and promised to work on reducing the ratio of foreign labor in those companies to 80% Iraqi workers and 20% foreign workers. He noted that many youths in Basra, both graduates and non-graduates, are suffering from unemployment and a lack of job opportunities, emphasizing that the youth of Basra should have priority for work in these companies.
