Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé confirmed that French President Emmanuel Macron does not influence his choices, after he lost his temper on Thursday when asked about his future with the French league champions. Mbappé sent a letter to "Paris Saint-Germain" stating that he does not intend to extend his contract, which expires in 2024, but later clarified that he has not requested the French club to allow him to transfer to the Spanish giants Real Madrid. When speculation about Mbappé's potential departure from Paris Saint-Germain arose in 2021, Macron urged him to stay with the French giant and continue playing in Ligue 1. French media reported earlier this week that Macron would push for Mbappé's stay, but the 24-year-old player reiterated his stance that his plan was to remain with Paris Saint-Germain next season.
Before facing Gibraltar tomorrow in the Euro Championship qualifiers, Mbappé said, "What is the president's impact on my career today in 2023? Nothing. He wants me to stay in Paris, and my goal is to stay. We are on the same wave." He added, "I have been used to that since I was very young. I think about tomorrow's match. That is my only concern. What happens off the field is secondary. I have always been able to do both. I want to show tomorrow that I am a great player." Paris Saint-Germain faces a dilemma of allowing Mbappé to complete the final year of his contract and losing the 180 million euros (196.94 million dollars) spent on acquiring the striker from Monaco in 2017. Mbappé has been the top scorer in Ligue 1 for the past five seasons.
