Wolverhampton Wanderers announced on Thursday that they have signed defender Santiago Bueno from Girona in Spain for five years, coming from Uruguay. The financial details were not disclosed by either party, but British media reported that the deal is valued at approximately £8.5 million ($10.77 million). The 24-year-old player, who has two international caps, joined Girona in 2019 on a five-year free transfer and played 120 matches for the Spanish club across all competitions. Bueno missed the first two matches of this season due to a hamstring injury but was on the bench for Girona's last match. He made his debut for the Uruguay national team in March under the coaching of former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa. Wolverhampton's sporting director Matt Hobbs stated: "He is a strong player like the center-backs that Uruguay is known for, but he also has skill and gives us good balance." Wolverhampton will visit Crystal Palace on Sunday in the league.
