King Charles III attended a service at a church today, marking his first public appearance since the announcement of his cancer diagnosis a few days ago. Charles walked alongside his wife, Queen Camilla, upon arriving at St. Mary Magdalene Church near their home in Sandringham village, eastern England, where he has gone to recuperate after his initial cancer treatment.
This appearance came the day after the king expressed his gratitude for the supportive messages he has received since the disclosure of his condition. In a statement released Saturday evening, the king said such messages have been "a great comfort and encouragement" to him. He added, "It is heartening to hear how a cancer diagnosis has helped raise public understanding and highlight the work of all the organizations that support cancer patients and their families throughout the UK and the world. I have lifelong admiration for their care and tireless dedication as a result of my own personal experience."
Buckingham Palace announced the king's cancer diagnosis on Monday. Charles was seen on Tuesday as he left his official residence, Clarence House, in London, after beginning the treatment phase.
