Barcelona, the defending champion of La Liga, announced on Friday the extension of coach Xavi Hernandez's contract until the end of June 2025. The club stated via its account on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that the contract includes an option for an additional year.
Xavi (43 years old) took charge of the team he played for during most of his professional career at the end of 2021, succeeding Dutchman Ronald Koeman. The former international player, who won the European Championship in 2008 and 2012 and the World Cup in 2010, has coached Barcelona in 96 matches, achieving 61 wins, 16 draws, and 19 losses.
He won his first title as head coach of the Catalan team last season by winning the Spanish Super Cup before leading the team to its first league title in four years and a total of 27 titles overall. Xavi, one of the graduates of Barcelona’s academy, spent 17 years at the club, playing 767 matches and winning 25 titles, including eight league titles and four Champions League titles.
