The Israeli military announced that the attack targeting the city of Eilat on the Red Sea in southern Israel was carried out by a drone. It stated via the "X" platform: "A drone hit a civilian building in the city of Eilat, and the identity of the device and the details of the incident are still under review." Israeli media pointed out that "Israeli police are investigating whether the explosion was caused by a suicide drone, while police warned of the possibility of a significant security event in the city."
According to Israeli channel 14, the explosion was due to a suicide drone, although its source has not yet been identified. The mayor of Eilat, Eli Lankri, stated to Israeli military radio: "Fortunately, there were no injuries from the explosion, just some panic cases. Air defenses around the city will be strengthened. The concerning thing is that the sirens did not go off; we will learn lessons from this incident."
More than 60,000 Israelis have left the Gaza border areas and headed to Eilat. The Israeli military believes that the drone originated from Yemen and was launched by the Houthis in solidarity with the Palestinians in the "Al-Aqsa Flood" battle. Channel 13 reported that military leadership in Israel is considering retaliatory strikes against Yemen in response to the ongoing Houthi attacks.
