Russia Condemns US Strikes in Iraq and Syria

The spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated today that Russia condemns the US airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, adding that "the UN Security Council should consider this issue." She continued: "It is clear that the airstrikes are deliberately designed to escalate the conflict. By attacking facilities of groups alleged to be loyal to Iran in Iraq and Syria almost continuously, the United States is intentionally trying to drag the largest countries in the region into the conflict." The United States has carried out airstrikes in Iraq and Syria against over 85 targets related to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Iran-backed militias in response to an attack that killed three American soldiers in Jordan. Reports indicate that nearly 40 people have been killed in the US strikes.
