Pakistan Election Commission Rejects Imran Khan’s Candidacy for 2024 Elections

Officials and the media team of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan indicated today, Saturday, that the "Election Commission rejected Khan's candidacy for the upcoming general elections in 2024 in two constituencies." His media team stated, "Khan has been disqualified from participating in the general elections scheduled for February 8 due to his conviction for corruption, but he submitted his nomination papers yesterday, Friday." However, the election commission announced its rejection of "Khan's candidacy because he is no longer listed on the registered voter rolls in the constituency, and due to a court ruling leading to his disqualification." Khan, 71, is facing several political and legal battles since his ouster from the prime minister's office in April 2022. He has not appeared at any public events since he was sentenced to three years in prison last August for illegally selling official gifts during his tenure from 2018 to 2022.
