A security source in Dhi Qar, Iraq reported on Sunday evening the death of the director of anti-terrorism and intelligence for the province in an inter-tribal dispute that broke out between the Al Omar and Al Rumaydh tribes. The source stated that "Colonel Aziz Faisal, the head of the Dhi Qar anti-terrorism and intelligence department, was killed in the dispute that erupted in the Al Islah district east of the province." It was noted that "the colonel was part of a large security force that was deployed to the city of Al Islah to control the inter-tribal conflict occurring between the two tribes," indicating that "there is a high state of security alert in the district and the province to manage the situation." Heavy and medium weapons were used in the conflict, which led to the burning of several residential houses. The source also mentioned that "a large security force led by Dhi Qar Police Chief Major General Maki Shana'a was dispatched to the Al Islah district to control the ongoing dispute between the two parties." On October 3, the leaders of the Al Omar and Al Rumaydh tribes in Dhi Qar announced their response to the initiative of the senior religious authority Ali Sistani to resort to a peaceful solution to the armed conflict that has been ongoing between them for months.
