The Russian foreign intelligence service accused the United States on Monday of attempting to interfere in the upcoming Russian presidential elections and stated that Washington has a plan to launch a cyber attack on the electronic voting system. Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is expected to win the presidential elections scheduled from March 15 to March 17, warned the West that any attempts by foreign powers to intervene in the elections would be considered hostile actions.
Official media reported that the Russian foreign intelligence service said in a statement that it has information indicating that the Biden administration intends to intervene in the elections. Media outlets quoted the foreign intelligence service as saying: "According to information received by the foreign intelligence of the Russian Federation, the Biden administration will task U.S. NGOs with the mission of achieving a decline in voter turnout."
The foreign intelligence service noted that "with the involvement of prominent American IT specialists, it is planned to carry out cyber attacks remotely against the electronic voting system, which would make it impossible to count votes from a significant number of Russian voters."
