Iran's Atomic Energy Chief Barred from Nuclear Conference in Austria

Bloomberg has reported, citing a U.S. official, that Austria has denied entry to Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, preventing him from attending a conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).


Eslami was scheduled to deliver a speech at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna on Monday, but Austrian authorities blocked his entry following a request from the United States.


The U.S. official explained that Austria rejected a United Nations request to exempt Mohammad Eslami from U.S. sanctions, which would have allowed him to enter the country.
