Sabitzer Leaves Bayern and Joins Dortmund

Austrian midfielder Marcel Sabitzer announced today, Monday, his signing with Borussia Dortmund, a competitor in the German Bundesliga, on a four-year deal coming from their traditional rival Bayern Munich. The clubs did not disclose the financial details of the transfer, but German media reported that the 29-year-old player signed with Dortmund for a fee of €19 million ($21.05 million).

Sabitzer, who has played 71 international matches and is the vice-captain of the Austrian national team, joined Bayern from Leipzig in 2021 before being loaned to Manchester United last February.

In a statement, Sabitzer said, "I can't wait to join the team and wear the Dortmund shirt. The discussions with the coaching staff at Dortmund were excellent and showed me how ambitious the club is in the coming years." He added, "I want to do my part to ensure that Borussia Dortmund achieves its goals and has every reason to celebrate something special with its fans again as soon as possible."

For his part, Dortmund's sporting director agent Sebastian stated, "Marcel is an experienced player who has been playing at the highest international level for years. He perfectly fits the character we were looking for." He added, "Marcel is physically strong and also has a great ability to threaten the goal. We are convinced that his personality will become an important pillar for the team and will help us become more effective in tough matches."

Sabitzer scored and assisted only twice in 54 matches with Bayern, while at United, he scored three times and provided one assist in 18 matches.
