Raisi During Meeting with Putin: It Is Regrettable That International Organizations Are

Russian President Vladimir Putin informed his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi today, during a meeting in the Kremlin, about the importance of discussing the Palestinian issue. For his part, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi expressed that "it is sad that the crimes in Gaza are supported by the U.S. and the West," adding, "it is regrettable that international organizations are ineffective." Raisi affirmed that "genocide is unfolding in Gaza," pointing out the need to stop the bombardment in Gaza as soon as possible.

Neither leader referred to the growing military cooperation between their countries, which is a concern for the United States that claims Iran is supplying Russia with weapons to be used against Ukraine. The Iranian president arrived in Moscow today to meet with Putin and discuss bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues. Raisi's visit to Moscow is at Putin's invitation, where discussions will cover bilateral relations including economic issues, regional and international matters, particularly the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the situation in Gaza.

Before heading to Moscow, Raisi stated that "one of the central issues to be discussed is the Palestinian issue, the efforts to stop the bombing of Gaza, lift the siege, and provide assistance to the oppressed Palestinian people." He clarified that in recent years, good steps have been taken towards strengthening relations and serving regional interests. Russia and Iran are keen to establish peace and stability in the region and share common views on regional and extraregional issues.

The Iranian president confirmed that "strengthening energy, industry, agriculture, knowledge-based companies, and various topics constitutes areas of cooperation between Iran and Russia." He noted that communication between the two continues within the framework of the Eurasian Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and BRICS, aiming to bolster economic and trade cooperation, while there remain areas for further deepening collaboration.
