Egyptian national team captain Mohamed Salah sent a farewell message to Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria after he was dismissed from coaching the Pharaohs. Vitoria left his position following the elimination of the team in the round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations currently taking place in Ivory Coast. Salah shared a picture with Vitoria on his Instagram account, writing: "Coach, thank you for everything... I wish you the best in the future."
Vitoria took over the coaching responsibilities of the Egyptian national team in July 2022, succeeding local coach Ihab Darwich, but was quickly dismissed from his role. The Egyptian Football Association is set to announce a new coach for the Pharaohs later, with French coach Hervé Renard, Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, and local coach Hossam Hassan being among the top candidates to take over the position following Vitoria.
