Iranian state media reported on Sunday that "two Iranian journalists who were imprisoned on charges related to protests that took place in the country in 2022 and 2023 have been temporarily released." The state media stated: "After 17 months in prison, the journalists were released temporarily after posting bail while awaiting the appeal ruling, and they are prohibited from leaving the country." An Iranian revolutionary court had sentenced Niloufar Hamadi and Elaheh Mohammadi to 13 and 12 years in prison, respectively, for their coverage of the death of young Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini while in custody, which sparked protests across the country.
