The Algeria International Book Fair began welcoming its visitors today, Thursday, for its 26th edition held at the Exhibition Palace in El-Madania, featuring the participation of 1,283 publishing houses from over 60 countries. The event was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Aymen Ben Abderrahmane on Wednesday evening, in the presence of Culture and Arts Minister Souhila Mouloudji and Exhibition Director Mohamed Ikreb.
The fair, which runs until November 4, carries the slogan "Africa Writes the Future" in celebration of Africa being the "Guest of Honor" this edition. The central pavilion features "Africa Space," hosting a seminar titled "African Thought and Self-Assertion in the 21st Century," along with meetings with authors from Cameroon, Guinea, and Benin. Additionally, a large tent spanning 200 square meters titled "Gaza Space" will host lectures, seminars, gatherings, and poetry evenings featuring Palestinian writers and poets, including Ibrahim Nasrallah and Yahya Yakhlef.
The cultural program of the fair emphasizes "Books and Digitalization," organizing several seminars on this topic, such as "Digitalization in Service of Publishing," "E-Marketing for Books," and "Practicing Writing in the Digital Space." The Culture and Arts Minister stated that the fair's activities will extend to other locations, including the Cultural Palace (Mouloudj Zaki), the National Library, and the Cinema Museum.
