Yemen: Over 97,000 Migrants Arrived in the Country in 2023

The Yemeni government announced today, Saturday, that "more than 97,000 migrants have arrived in the country during 2023." The Yemeni government stated in a release that "Health Minister Qassem Bahibeh discussed with the medical coordinator of Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) Belgium, Darwin Dyaar, the organization's interventions in the health sector" in the temporary capital, Aden. Bahibeh clarified that "more than 97,000 migrants arrived in the country last year," and he urged the organization to implement interventions in the migrant file. Bahibeh pointed out that "this large number of migrants casts a shadow over the host community and places significant pressure on health facilities and the services provided therein." Yemen is a destination for migrants from the Horn of Africa, particularly Ethiopia and Somalia, with many aiming to transit through it on a difficult journey to Gulf countries, particularly Saudi Arabia.
