The Sovereign Front: To Protect the Military Institution

Amid accumulating crises and the proposal to extend the term of Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, the "Sovereign Front" for Lebanon held its regular meeting at the office of MP Ashraf Rifi in Ashrafieh on Wednesday. The "Sovereign Front" noted in its concluding statement that the "Free Patriotic Movement" follows a "destructive" approach and seeks to undermine the military institution from leadership "to enhance the influence of militias that monopolize strategic decisions and drag Lebanon into futile wars".

The front emphasized the necessity of preventing "any encroachment or harm to the Lebanese Army," rejecting "being drawn into this dangerous deviation and returning to respect for state institutions." It condemned "in the strongest terms any intervention that threatens the unity of the Lebanese Army and creates gaps that pose a threat to national unity."

The Sovereign Front considered that "the international community has a significant responsibility regarding the process of rescuing Lebanon from subjugation and control by Iranian hegemony through its 'militias'," which have left no room for any hopes of local rescue, where practices and arrogance are dragging Lebanon into wars that the Lebanese people are innocent of, as no one consulted them in determining their options. "Achieving stability and security requires cooperation, and adherence to the rules of the state, law, and constitution."

It announced its "rejection of using Lebanon as a platform or passageway to lure wars onto our land," considering that "the application of relevant international resolutions is the gateway to any solution, particularly Resolution 1701 through a centralized government decision, deploying the Lebanese Army along the borders and withdrawing all armed elements."

In response to a question posed by "Wardena" regarding the tension at the southern Lebanese borders, coalition member MP Ashraf Rifi said, "We are with the Palestinian cause, but Lebanon is not prepared to enter any war, and we are making efforts to protect Lebanon."
