Bayern Munich, the German Bundesliga champion, announced on Sunday that it has signed French defender Sasha Boey from Turkish club Galatasaray on a contract that will last until 2028. Boey, 23, joined the Turkish club on a four-year deal from Stade Rennais in 2021. While no financial details were disclosed, German media estimated the transfer fee to be around €30 million ($32.589 million).
Bayern Munich's sporting director, Christoph Freund, stated, "Sasha Boey is a very fast defender with great physical strength and is very active in matches; he is not afraid of tackles." He added, "He will improve the quality of our defense."
Bayern has been struggling recently, sitting second in the Bundesliga behind Bayer Leverkusen, facing a long list of injuries and absences, including key defenders Dayot Upamecano and Konrad Laimer, who suffered injuries during last week's win against Union Berlin and will be out for weeks. In the same match, defensive midfielder Joshua Kimmich also sustained an injury, while defenders Kim Min-Jae and Noussair Mazraoui are absent due to their commitments with their national teams, and defender Bouna Sarr is also injured.
