Turkish media reported, citing authorities, that a security officer from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's guard died, and three others were injured, including two members of the presidential guard, during an "incident" they experienced. Authorities confirmed that the incident occurred during Erdoğan's tour in Şırnak, southeast Turkey, indicating that "the team that experienced the mentioned incident was part of the crews working to secure and protect President Erdoğan's convoy in Şırnak."
The authorities clarified that there is currently no additional information about the incident involving the security team other than it being a traffic accident. Several local sources suggested that the incident was a failed assassination attempt on President Erdoğan.
During a gathering in Mardin, President Erdoğan stated: "I wish God's mercy for Farah Dir, who lost his life in a traffic accident that occurred after our visit to Şırnak, I pray he rests in paradise." He added, "I wish a speedy recovery to our injured officers."
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya also published a condolence message for Police Officer Farah Dir, who died in a traffic accident during President Erdoğan's convoy. Yerlikaya stated in his message: "Police Officer Farah Dir, who was part of the Şırnak Intelligence Directorate team, died due to a traffic accident involving the vehicle he was in heading toward the city of Nusaybin in Şırnak, may God bless our martyr, and I extend my condolences to his grieving family, our heroic police, and our nation."
In the condolence message published by the Ministry of National Defense, it stated: "May God bless our heroic police officer who was martyred on March 13, 2024, and we offer our condolences to his family and relatives."
