Overeating Leads to Stomach Paralysis

Overeating Leads to Stomach Paralysis

Gastroenterologist Dr. Nikita Kharloff confirmed that "overeating can lead to various diseases, including digestive problems, heartburn, bloating, and gas. Additionally, gastric paralysis may occur." He stated, "The stomach can expand to 10 liters or more if it is 'trained' for it, as it has significant capacity. It is well-known that there are popular eating contests in the United States among professional eaters. Participants in these contests consume up to 10 liters and suffer from gastric paralysis, which is beneficial for winning the contest but has no benefits for health."

He emphasized that "when the stomach is paralyzed and bloated, the person's vomiting reflex disappears, allowing them to consume a large amount of food. However, the motor function weakens, meaning food does not move through the digestive system, which leads to blockage."

To avoid gastric paralysis, he recommended adjusting one’s diet and avoiding overeating, suggesting that the amount of food consumed in one sitting should not exceed 300 grams. He said, "This food amount is roughly equivalent to 300-400 milliliters, depending on the density of the substances consumed, and this option is less harmful."

According to him, if a person feels hungry after eating, it is better for them to wait a few hours before consuming additional food. The doctor pointed out that overeating is the cause of 85% of chronic stomach diseases.
