Bayer Leverkusen, the leader of the German Bundesliga, is nearing its first-ever title win, but Spanish coach Xabi Alonso warned his team on Friday that the championship is not yet decided, despite their significant 13-point lead over the nearest rivals with seven rounds left in the season.
Alonso has led his team through an unbeaten run spanning 40 consecutive matches across all competitions this season, while his team competes for three trophies. The coach emphasized that "the efforts of the team will not be any less than usual" when facing Union Berlin on Saturday, before they play the first leg of the quarter-finals in the Europa League against West Ham United next week.
In a press conference, Alonso stated: "Our focus is on the Bundesliga... We have a good opportunity to win the title, but there are still seven matches remaining. We will head to Berlin with the best lineup and hope to take a step closer to winning the title. We are in a position to win the title, but the competition is not over yet."
