Authorities in Bangladesh have closed schools for 33 million children amid the most severe heat wave in three decades. The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education announced that most educational institutions will remain closed until April 27. This marks the second consecutive year that Bangladesh has had to close schools to protect children from extreme heat. The early onset of the severe heat wave has also impacted agricultural production in the country. Last week, the average maximum temperatures in the capital Dhaka were 4 to 5 degrees Celsius higher than the 30-year average for the same period, according to the Meteorological Department.
