The Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, Herzi Halivi, issued a strong reprimand to the commander of the 98th Division, Brig.-Gen. Dan Goldfus, after he criticized political leadership in a message two days ago, stating that they should rise to the "sacrifices" of the soldiers in Gaza. Goldfus stated, “I ask at this opportunity to address our leaders, from both sides, and I hope that they will have the time to listen to the heart of a soldier...We achieve many achievements on the battlefield. But you must be worthy…”
Halivi considered Goldfus's speech a violation of the boundaries between "the army" and the state. Goldfus admitted that his actions were wrong and contrary to orders, for which he apologized, according to the newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth." Following his call for Israeli politicians to unite, the army announced that it would summon Brig.-Gen. Dan Goldfus for a "clarification discussion." Goldfus had urged Israeli politicians to unite, saying they are not living up to what the soldiers who are killed in Gaza deserve.
