The U.S. Department of Defense, the Pentagon, announced today, Tuesday, that it "will send 300 additional soldiers to the Middle East, with their primary mission being to provide support in areas such as dismantling explosive devices and communications." Pentagon spokesperson Brigadier General Patrick Ryder stated that "the troops will depart from the United States but will not head to Israel." He added, "Their goal is to support deterrence efforts in the region and enhance the protection capabilities of U.S. forces." He noted that "this month has seen 27 attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria."
