German Chancellor Olaf Scholz indicated today, Saturday, that "authorities are investigating an alleged recording published by Russian state media, in which German military officers discussed the country's support for Ukraine, including the potential use of Taurus missiles." The German news agency (DPA) reported that Scholz described the situation during a press statement on the sidelines of a visit to the Vatican as "extremely serious." Earlier this week, Scholz stated that he remains "reluctant to send long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine," pointing to "the risk of Germany becoming directly involved in the war."
However, in the alleged audio recording, German officers were discussing the possibility of using the missiles in Ukraine. Chancellor Olaf Scholz has pledged a rapid investigation into a Russian leak of an apparent recording concerning Germany's strategy on the war in Ukraine, including the supply of Taurus missiles.
Meanwhile, Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the RT television channel, stated: "The audio recording revealed German officers discussing strikes on the Crimean Bridge." She added, "In this recording, senior officers in the German army discuss how they would bombard the Crimean Bridge," noting that the conversation took place on February 19. She further mentioned that during the discussion, one officer referenced a planned trip to Ukraine on February 21 to coordinate strikes on Russian targets.
