WhatsApp is testing a feature that allows users to transcribe voice notes without needing to listen to them. The platform previously announced that it was testing this feature on iOS devices, but it has now been discovered that trials have also begun on Android systems. According to the website "WhatsApp Beta Info," this feature is designed to enhance user convenience for those who prefer reading text over listening to voice notes.
A screenshot from the app shows that the development of this feature is progressing rapidly, and its interface is nearly ready for an official launch. WhatsApp will employ a speech recognition system for text transcription, a process that will occur securely on users' devices rather than on the platform's servers, ensuring better security and faster processing.
Once the additional package is downloaded, WhatsApp will integrate the transcribed text into voice note bubbles, allowing users to read voice messages easily, especially in situations where they cannot play audio. This feature not only enhances accessibility for users with hearing impairments but also caters to those in noisy environments or circumstances where listening may not be possible.
This feature has been spotted in the beta version 2.24.7.8 of WhatsApp on Android, but it has not yet been released, pending further improvements to ensure it is available to all users worldwide.
