Xiaomi Sells 50,000 Electric Cars Half an Hour After Launch

Chinese smartphone and electronic devices company Xiaomi has sold 50,000 units of its electric cars just half an hour after announcing their availability in the market. The company unveiled its newly developed electric vehicle, the SU7, during a ceremony held in Beijing on Thursday, which includes three versions.

Li Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, stated at the car's launch event that the vehicle has a battery range of up to 700 km, claiming that 90% of Xiaomi's technical features are superior to those of the American Tesla Model 3.

The starting price of the Xiaomi car is 215,900 Chinese yuan (approximately $29,900) and varies based on the features of each model. This indicates that the price of the Xiaomi SU7 is 30,000 yuan less than that of the Tesla Model 3. Furthermore, Xiaomi aims to establish a prominent position in the electric car market with its new vehicle, amid fierce price competition and declining sales in China, as noted by automotive market specialists.
