Palestinian President Heads to Cairo to Meet Sisi

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is heading to Cairo today, Sunday, to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Abbas is expected to discuss joint coordination regarding the war on the Gaza Strip before the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to the region. The Palestinian Liberation Organization previously announced in late December that it rejected an "Egyptian initiative" proposed by Cairo, which included three phases to stop the Israeli war on Gaza. The rejection was attributed to what they described as "talks about forming a Palestinian government to manage the West Bank and Gaza away from the responsibility framework of the organization," prior to Egypt making amendments that were welcomed by the organization.
