Nasrallah: Our Choice is Suleiman Franjieh

The Secretary-General of "Hezbollah," Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, announced that his choice for the presidency is former minister Suleiman Franjieh. He indicated that he has candidly told MP Gebran Bassil that "Hezbollah" sees both him and Minister Franjieh as presidential candidates. He mentioned to Bassil that due to his decision not to run, the choice may lean towards Franjieh.

Nasrallah emphasized that he seriously wants to elect a president and does not want a vacuum, stating that power should be restructured for matters to be streamlined. He affirmed the commitment to the two-thirds majority in the election of the president in both the first and second rounds.

During a commemorative celebration held by the party on the occasion of the Day of the Wounded, honoring the prisoners and freed individuals, he remarked that "we do not accept foreign imposition of a president on Lebanon, nor do we accept foreign vetoes on any candidate, regardless of whether we support or oppose them, but we are open to assistance in bridging viewpoints."

He stated that Iran and Syria have not and will not interfere in the presidential election process, asserting, "The decision is in our hands: we choose whom we want and nominate whom we wish; we do not wait for foreign influence or rely on regional conditions or settlements, but we work day and night to ensure that the election of the president occurs soon."

Regarding the quorum issue, he pointed out that "previously, we were accused of obstructing the quorum, and today we hear from the leaders of parliamentary blocs and political elites that if the presidential candidate comes from the resistance axis, we will disrupt the session." He called for giving the presidential entitlement its full internal dimension.
