Jordanian Monarch Warns Against Continuing War in Gaza During Ramadan

Jordanian King Abdullah II warned, during a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, that continuing the war in Gaza during the month of Ramadan would "increase the risk of expanding the conflict." The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met today in the Jordanian capital with King Abdullah II, accompanied by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the latest developments on the Palestinian scene and the ongoing communications with all parties for an immediate ceasefire and the introduction of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, particularly to the northern region, which is facing a real famine. King Abdullah II emphasized the necessity of making every effort to achieve a "immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and to protect innocent civilians." He also stated that "Jordan will continue to provide humanitarian, relief, and medical assistance to our people in the sector."

President Abbas reiterated the rejection of displacement, whether in the Gaza Strip or in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, warning of the serious dangers posed by the Israeli army's potential attack on the city of Rafah in the southern sector.
