The Bahrain Football Federation announced in a statement issued yesterday, Thursday, the termination of its contract with Argentine coach Juan Antonio Pizzi by mutual consent. The statement from the Bahrain Football Federation read: "The contract with the coaching and administrative staff of the national first football team has been terminated by mutual agreement between the two parties."
It added: "The Board of Directors expresses its gratitude and appreciation to the coaching and administrative staff of the national team, led by Argentine coach Juan Pizzi, during the past period, wishing them continued success in their future endeavors."
The Board of Directors confirmed that it will spend the upcoming period reviewing several resumes put forward to succeed coach Pizzi "in preparation for selecting one of them, and revealing the identity of the coaching and administrative staff for the team, especially with the national team nearing the completion of its path in the joint qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup."
The Bahrain Football Federation contracted Pizzi in July of last year, and he led the team in the joint qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup, winning against Yemen (2-0) and losing to the UAE by the same score.
It is worth mentioning that the Bahrain national team was eliminated in the Round of 16 of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in Qatar after losing to Japan 1-3. The Bahraini Red started their group stage campaign in the continental tournament 2023 by losing to South Korea (1-3), before achieving consecutive wins against Malaysia and Jordan, both by a score of (1-0), to top Group E with six points.
