The Civil Defense Agency in Brazil reported today, Wednesday, that "eight people have died and 21 others are missing due to heavy rains this week in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in the south of the country." Authorities noted that more than 1400 people were displaced following the storms which led to rising river levels and flooding in various parts of the state, causing damage to 104 towns. The state government had warned in a weather and water report yesterday, Tuesday, about the risk of flooding "across the entire state," as "heavy rains" are expected to continue in the coming days.
