Rodrigo Lasmar, the doctor for the Brazilian national football team, stated that forward Neymar is recovering well from the knee surgery he underwent after his injury last month, but there is no timeline for his return to the field. Neymar suffered a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee while participating with the national team. He underwent surgery earlier this month in Belo Horizonte.
Lasmar mentioned in a press conference at the Brazilian national team's training center in Teresópolis that the 31-year-old player is responding "very well," but the recovery will be lengthy, and he needs to focus on this process.
The doctor added, "He has shown since the first moment that he is following our recommendations. He knows this is a process that will require the involvement of each of us, the physiotherapist and the fitness coach, so we can get him back as soon as possible."
Lasmar, who performed the surgery on the international forward, stated that it is currently not possible to determine a date for the return of the Al-Hilal player. He noted, "Injuries vary from player to player. Generally, there are accompanying injuries that can be equally significant, like meniscus injuries. All of this makes the procedure more complicated with a slower recovery period. That's why we are not discussing a timeline."
Neymar joined the Saudi Pro League leader last August for 90 million euros (approximately 96.28 million dollars), but the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain striker has only played five matches due to muscular injuries.
Brazil, currently third in the South American World Cup qualifiers with seven points, will face Colombia, fifth with six points, next Thursday. Argentina, the leader with 12 points, will host matches on Tuesday.
