During a meeting with a delegation from the "Association of Lebanese Political Detainees in Syrian Prisons," led by Ali Bou Dahn at the central Kataeb House in Saifi, Lebanese Kataeb Party President Sami Jamail held the Lebanese state directly responsible for not taking any steps to contribute to justice in the case of detainees and the forcibly disappeared in Syrian prisons, and for failing to fulfill its duty towards families that have lost relatives and know nothing about their fate for decades.
He stated that "the direct responsibility in this matter lies with the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, who are responsible for demanding the rights of Lebanese citizens and cannot discriminate between one Lebanese and another."
Jamail emphasized, "We will do everything we can with all our parliamentary friends to provide all support on this issue, gathering the largest number of signatures and stressing our support for any action taken by the association at both national and international levels."
The delegation requested the Kataeb leader to "sign a draft resolution that the association will raise to the UN Secretary-General António Guterres to amend the United Nations resolution that calls for the establishment of an independent institution under the auspices of the organization to deal with the issue of the missing and forcibly disappeared in Syria, which Lebanon has refused to sign."
The amendment requested by the association includes "adding the case of all detainees and missing persons of all nationalities since before 2011, allowing for the inclusion of Lebanese detainees and missing persons in Syrian prisons in the resolution."
