Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry hosted the first meeting of the trilateral consultation mechanism at the ministerial level between Egypt, Jordan, and Japan, attended by Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi and Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi. The foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, and Japan issued a joint statement highlighting the main outcomes of the trilateral meeting.
The statement included: "The importance of high-level regional discussions such as the trilateral consultation mechanism, which represents a pathway to seize tangible opportunities aimed at deepening regional cooperation, particularly as developmental aspects and capacity building are key components in addressing regional challenges." The three ministers also affirmed their commitment to continue expanding aspects of trilateral cooperation to encompass a wide range of fields, which would benefit more countries in the region, beyond the confines of the currently experimental trilateral regional cooperation projects taking place in Palestine, Lebanon, and Iraq. In this context, the ministers welcomed the results of these projects, considering them an important starting point to solidify the ambitious cooperation mechanism linking Egypt, Jordan, and Japan.
The Egyptian and Jordanian ministers expressed their appreciation for various assistance provided by Japan in this regard and the progress achieved so far in this area. Focusing on the situation in the Middle East, the discussions reflected a convergence of views on the significant importance of achieving peace, security, and stability in the region. To this end, the ministers reiterated the importance of upholding the concept of the nation-state and supporting the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, such as respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
