The acting Director General of General Security, General Elias Al-Baysri, stated that "the challenges are growing day by day, with the issue of displaced persons at the forefront, and it must be addressed with a practical plan in coordination with the Syrian government and the international community." During a celebration at the General Security Directorate, which was attended by the Minister of Interior and Municipalities in the caretaker government, Bassam Al-Mawlawi, Al-Baysri emphasized that "we are following up on the file of Syrian displaced persons, especially regarding their resettlement in a third country, reaffirming that Lebanon is a transit country, not a country of asylum, and to hand over the data of the displaced unconditionally."
He reassured the Lebanese that "passports are secured for everyone and there is no need to rush."
In turn, Al-Mawlawi pointed out that "the country is going through difficult circumstances, but General Security and all security forces are surmounting them, and we are working to perform our role properly despite the circumstances that have not impacted our performance and sacrifice." He added, "We are working to provide a stable summer for citizens and tourists," expressing hope that "Arabs will come in great numbers and that Lebanese expatriates will return," affirming that "General Security is always strong and present, and my advice is to be proactive in serving citizens."
Al-Mawlawi confirmed that "the issue of Syrian displaced persons is the most important, a thorny and difficult issue, which the political authority is addressing, and it should be viewed from the perspective of the nation's higher interest."
