Although the reception of "Barbie" was modest at the Oscars, she has gained a new friend: Queen Camilla, who received a doll in her likeness from 50 years ago in London on Tuesday. The 75-year-old queen joked upon receiving the doll with styled blonde hair like hers, wearing a blue dress similar to what she wore on Tuesday: "You’ve made me 50 years younger. Every woman should have her own version of Barbie."
The gift was presented to her after a ceremony held at Buckingham Palace, celebrating the WOW (Women Of the World) Foundation that she leads, which works for gender equality. Among the guests at this event, which was part of the celebrations for International Women's Rights Day on March 8, were Queen Mathilde of Belgium and actress Helen Mirren, who narrated the "Barbie" film released last summer.
Helen Mirren, 78, won the Oscar for Best Actress in 2007 for portraying Queen Elizabeth II in the film "The Queen." Last week, she also received her own "Mattel Barbie" doll in her likeness, holding an Oscar statuette, in celebration of March 8 as well. She said she was "completely stunned" by the gift.
